I doubt if you can buy anything in UK with any sort of US dollars or any other sort of foreign currency — and that includes Euros. Small shopkeepers (especially ones selling silly quack remedies) are not equipped to deal in forex. For an American to go into a shop and expect them to accept US dollars (of any sort) would be seen as the height of arrogance.

So you must pay in Pounds Sterling or “go forth and multiply”.
