I never thought much of the Lord of the Rings books - although the Hobbit was good. The tone was too bombastic for me. So I never bothered about the movies.

And why did they shoot in the subtropical South Seas islands of New Zealand? Norway, the Karelia, the Urals and (maybe) the Caucasus would have been more appropriate to the Nordic-saga flavour of the books.
