Zipper merging REDUCES road rage because nobody is perceived as 'jumping the queue'.

It also reduces the length of any line/tailback that might form because all lanes are fully utilised.

When I first moved to UK there was no zipper merging - and it was awful.

Fortunately wisdom eventually prevailed and the powers-that-be introduced zipper merging.
